Release party concert
Café Mir - Grünerløkka Lufthavn (Toftesgate 69, Oslo)
Gargamel are having a release party concert to celebrate their second album Descending, at Cafe Mir on the 16th of September. The band will play the whole new album, some songs from the first album, and maybe a few new surprises aswell.
Café Mir is in a residential building, so concerts are not allowed to go on for longer than to eleven o´clock, so the concert will start nine(ish), no later than nine thirty.

Descending is out
Gargamel´s second album titled Descending is finally out on cd. You can order it from Record Heaven.
The album has been leaked on torrents for some months, and there has been alot of downloads. We hope people will buy our album also. We put alot of work, love and our own money into making it. If you want to support us and the making of more albums (studio time cost alot of money), then buy the album, either as cd or as a legal download.
Enjoy!

Live and kicking
Gargamel will be playing as support for italian band The Watch at Gamla in Oslo on the 16th of May.
The Watch will do a concert with only Genesis songs from 1970-72, and we will be doing stuff from our new album. Should be a good night.

Album is at hand (well almost)
The album is finished. Not sure when the cd will be out yet. Hopefully not to long now, and it will be a very nice digipak cover. We´re also hoping to get it on vinyl, but that might take a little longer.
But for now, for those who are eager, the album is availalbe to buy as a download from Klicktrack.com.

YouTube allstars
Wasn´t feeling well today, so I stayed in all day, but atleast it gave me the time to do a edit of some of the video we have recorded in the studio.
This is from the overdubbing sessions in early January and early March.
I think this one will be a little more entertaining to watch than the first video, since you get to hear the whole band and not just the drums...hehe
Check it out at YouTube!

Studio times
Our new album is moving along quite nicely, we are actually soon finished. And it´s turning out even better than what we could have hoped for.
The first weekend of Janury we started overdubs, with extra guitars, vocals, flute, saxaphone, glockenspiel and other bits. Crazy noises, with feedback and tape echos.....
The first weekend of March we did all the organs. Arne went out and bought himself a Hammond A-100 from 1965 the day before we entered the studio. He was going to bring his B3 from home, but now he didn´t have to, and he will be using this one for rehearsals and gigs, which is really cool. Nothing beats a real Hammond.
We recorded it thru both a Leslie with a Marshal tube amp, and thru Tom´s Fender Twin Reverb (from 1971 I think?) with a Big Muff distortion. This gives us a range of sounds from Soft Machine´ish to Deep Purple and to the more typical Pink Floy´ish Leslie sound. All very nice. And Arne blew us away with his playing. Normaly we can´t quite hear what he´s playing, so when we now did, we were very impressed!
Go Arne!
;-)
We also used a Yamaha combo type organ curtesy of the studio for one song. And then some Clavinet and a whole lot of acustic piano which turned out very nice. We knew we wanted to use to acustic piano, but we didn´t quite know where or what. But we just started with a small idea, and then it flowed naturally, and Arne handeled all the suggestions we kept throwing at him right of the bat.
After getting most of the ivory department out of the way we did the rest of the vocals, some percussion (I actually played some congas on a track....now it´s danceable...hehe), and some more guitars, even a backwards guitar solo....ohhh yeah.
Check out photos from the March studio session!
So in a couple of weeks we´ll be going home to Bjørn Viggo and recording lots of analog synths. Some solos, and lots of sound effects. And a week after that we´re going to Lars Fredrik (keyboard player of Wobbler and White Willow) to use his lovely mellotron.
And then mixing starts on the 27th og April, and hopefyllu be done a week after that. Then there is only masteriing left, which we´ll maybe go to Stockholm to do.
If anybody is reading this and looking forward to hearing the album, I can say that it will be worth the wait. I really feel we´ve taken it to the next level and that we have made something that many people will enjoy. I´ve been listening alot to a rough mix and it allready sounds awesome. Reminds me of everyrhing from King Crimson to Sonic Youth, Dungen, Queens of the stoneage, Van Der Graaf Generator, Pink Floyd (both early days and Wish you where here era) and lots...lots of other stuff. It sounds big, warm, lush, raw and in your face!
We´ve done quite a bit of video taping, so if I get the time to edit some, maybe I´ll post a clip on Youtube later.

All is well
Our studio weekend went great. We managed to get down the basic tracks for the whole album. That means drums, bass, rhodes, and the main guitar.
We´re starting the overdubbing of vocals, flute, more keyboards and all the little funny extras the first weekend of January, before Tom goes away for a month long surf holiday.
We took lots of photos, and a couple of hours of video, but it will take a while to get it all sorted out. Bjørn Viggo (ex-Gargamel keyboard player and founder) came and took some great photos and helped out with the filming. Bjørn will also be playing some synths on the album. (from his collection of vintage gear).
I´ve scanned and uploaded some b&h Polaroids I took. Check them out!

The beginning of the new
Yesterday (friday) we started the recording of our second album! Been looking forward to this for a long time, and it feels great to finally be on the way.
We are recording at the excellent Harry´s Gym Studio in Oslo, which is run by the very nice and talented Bjarne Stensli.
The album (with no name yet) will feature four songs, ranging from aproxomently 21 to 6 minutes in lenght. We´re hoping to release this on vinyl (probably very limited edition) so we have to make the songs fit the vinyl format with only 25 minutes per side, which is quite difficult....hehe
We´re recording the basic tracks (drums, bass, guitar and Fender Rhodes) live in the studio. Yesterday we managed to get down the basic tracks for one whole song (Prevail the sea). It went a whole lot faster than we expected, and it sounds great!! Allready, before any mixing it´s an incredible sound.
We´ll be recording today and tommorow aswell, and I´ll post a more info and pictures soon, maybe I´ll make a studio blog over at our myspace page. We´re also filming a little, so probably putting some up on youtube.
